I always thought a beta was something before a game goes gold. Sou you can change things you noticed in the beta... well... I was wrong.

You hopefully also realize that, by the time a beta build passes internal QA, and gets into the user's hands, its been like a month since a dev last touched it?

Most of the issues in betas are noticed by the developers long before some beta tester reports a bug.  Large beta tests are primarily for statistical information, load testing, and finding bugs that are best found via the "british museum" search method (like map flaws, all of which can be hard to nail down by internal testing).

This "Beta 5" was probably last touched by a developer sometime in early december, or maybe even late november -- well before the final gold was approved.
