A truly beautiful visual experience that can only be fully appreciated in a real IMAX theatre(not these crappy upgraded screens that are popping up). I just hope it has the legs in the US to knock Tranformers 2 off #1 for 2009. Should do between $900m-$1billion WW all up. The "wait for the BR" crowd will be sorely disappointed. |
Dunno about $900 bln, but I think it can top $600 million, which would be great results for Cameron to want another film...at the very least, I think the "can" of worms has been opened, and Avatar is the new gold standard for all other films to match.

It'll easily surpass 600 million.

Next weekend has alot of competition, so if the movie can drop only 45-50%, it's going to top $600 easily, otherwise, it might not be so easy.

The drops should be quite stable. Japan and China alone should chip in $100m+ between them(maybe even in Japan alone). Solid reviews mean that the older demographic will turn out to see it eventually and awards nominations will keep interest high.
Avatar will make a lot more overseas than in the US. $1 billion seems far fetched but it's a quarter of the way there already and if 2012 can make close to $800m, it seems more likely that it will happen.
Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.
Patiently waiting for: Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2
