I think the 360 version will probably have more compressed audio and video but that's about it. Also Blu Ray reads slower than DVD so duplicate files are used to combat this (as is mandatory installs).

This rumour about FF being purposely made worse so as to keep it parity between the systems is pure SDF type propaganda. Why on earth would they do that? Who has done that? There will always be small differences between the systems, they are different architectures and in multiplat face offs the 360 usually wins so if anything it should be the other way around.

About Bayonetta download file size disparity between PS3 and 360, well PS3 version is longer in some ways (to make up for the lack of the clock tower section).

What I want to know is how come the 360 allows one to download updates and games without having to install them? Does it install as it downloads? Why doesn't the PS3 do this? It's a right pain having to install after downloading.

That is only the case when devs port over to PS3 to avoid extra optimization. Uncharted 2 proves this wrong. FFXIII is said to have no loading times except between city and field, and that it has no install.

As for SDF type propaganda, are you telling me Yoshinori Kitase is a member of the SDF? Lol. http://www.qj.net/qjnet/playstation-3/contrary-to-what-square-enix-would-have-us-believe-ffxiii-ps3-is-compromised.html

Make out whatever you wish of that link.

No I'm not saying Yoshinori is a member of the SDF. Not sure why you say that as your source is of a dubious nature. An 'analysis' by PS3 center and no link to the Gametrailer interview. Yeah great source lol. And will there really be no Japanase VO (even though there are plenety of videos going around which JPN VO).

Oh and Resistance used duplicate files.

After discussing it with a few members (as you saw), and failing to find a source for the GT interview, I've also decided to shelve the claim until further proof arises. But I just think that whole "SDF propaganda" talk is uncalled for, really. Regardless of intended platform, a multiplat move on an ambitious project like this could easily cause compromises, be it space issues, or engine restrictions, etc. Of course, that's all theories, and since we're aiming for practicality, like I said, I'll just drop it for now.

As for Resistance: Yes, but it also requires an install. Uncharted 2 has no install, but it has no loading times in the game...I can't help but question the duplicate files method.

Uncharted 2 has loads, they're just hidden by movies.

You don't experience loads when you die because when you hit a checkpoint it just saves the basic state of the game.  It can do that because there's not to re-setup when you load:

  • Reset physics objects -- there aren't a lot of these so that's simple
  • Despawn enemies - simple
  • move Nathan - simple
  • set weapon/ammo - simple

Reloading checkpoint done!  You don't really notice it because it doesn't actually reload the level there.

And I'm not downplaying anything there, I think that's a great design choice, I'm just saying Uncharted 2 does have loads but they're just hidden well.  If you want to know how long their insane load times are, just quit the game in the middle of a level and then come back to it.
