I know this is an old thread but to anyone who was interested Bungie just confirmed on their website that the Lone Wolf is a Spartan III so its in the books now.
And also Kiefer23 your completly off in terms of Spartan IIIs being cannon fodder. In fact many of their genetical upgrades and such were better than the S II's. At least thats certainly the case with Beta and Gamma, Alpha being the first was certainly not the best unit. In fact the main reason that they were so much cheaper and expendable is because they had much less strict rules for who to conscript and because they didn't give the S III's Mjoulir armor which is incredicly expensive. It clearly says in Ghosts of Onyx how the S II's were shocked with just how good the S III's are.
Also Kurt isn't truly MIA either he is most certainly dead. He killed himself with a Nuke on Onyx in order to stem the Covenant and prevent them from finding the Dyson Sphere. Also the entire Grey Team is truly MIA. They went far far far behind enemy lines and while are most likely dead since they weren't ever heard from again they have never been confirmed as KIA. Also S II Kelly-0087 is MIA since shes trapped inside the Dyson Sphere with Fred and Dr. Halsey
