Actually... that's not even true. Or at least non in my anatomy of the brain class when i was in college.
In reality stuff life reading too much, playing videogames, reading too close, reading when it's too dark etc... all it does is strain your eyes. Which isn't permanent.
Maybe the teacher was full of it though.
