Megaman classic is a series that works in 8-bit, now, that doesn't mean that it doesn't work in better sprites... i think that as long as it keeps the NES look but with high-res sprites and 8-bit music, it can still be a viable Megaman game with cheap costs for WiiWare/PSN/XBLA...
In the Megaman X/Zero/ZX case, they don't need NES treatment (because they started with the graphical leap), but 2D treatment is mandatory, and it can have 480/720/1080p sprites (or 3D models in 2D environment, better known as 2.5D)...
In Megaman Legends case, it must be 3D, this game is designed to 3D gameplay, and it can have a Wii edition and an HD edition, or only one of them...
