Not this again..
It's simple, how can we give a crap about a kindgom in FFVI where we aren't introduced to anyone on a personal level.
We didn't know Cyan on a personal level before that, and we never got to know his family well enough. Why should anyone care? There's no substantial backing for that.
It's not what happens, it's how it happens. Keep that in mind.
You got to know Aeris throughout the game, her opinions, her interactions her personality etc.
Forget about if you liked Aeris or not, there's a lot of detail presented with her on a personal level involving her mother, her Ancient status, and her interactions with everyone in the party.
That's why her death is significant. The manner that it happened in was also significant. Great execution (not talking about just her death) of music and cinema/gameplay after wards.
This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*
