This is not true, see FFXIII. Interest for this game never died and most - if not all - threads about this game still seem to be made by PS3 owners.
Public interest for a game doesn't have anything to do with exclusitivity in my opinion, it has to do with the popularity of an established and popular franchise (Zelda, GT, Halo, FF, COD, GTA etc.) or the anticipation for a new franchise, which looks very promising from previews, e.g. first Mass Effect game, first Bioshock game or Scribblenauts.
