I'm guessing maybe $20K to get a container from one end of the pacific to another. That makes it about $13 per console to get it from China to NZ. Pretty much means by the time the console hits our shores it's at dead even without the controller factored in. Seems like Sony are giving the controller away for free here, and probably a few bucks on top. If you buy a second controller, which is probably being sold at 250% of cost you've helped Sony not make a loss with your console purchase (here in NZ at least). |
.The costs are ofcourse completly different for a private person and for a Multi Billion Company. They make contracts with shipping line and buy over 1-3 years some Contianer maybe 100000 or more. This 15000 is not for Ships I bet it isnt. Because on a large container ship fits maybe 10000-15000 Containers and this would mean that the ship would cost/earn during one ride 150-225 Million Dollar. Thats just impossible because the whole ship if you build one costs maybe 300-500 Million. Ofcourse this are the biggest ships the price per container on Ships which are smaller is oviously more expensive. But Sony usually needs every week a couple of thousend containers. Lets count 1200 PS3s per container per week maybe 200k so they need 200 Container for the PS3 in bad weeks. But they are obviously shipping per month thats maybe 1000 Container per month from China to Japan USA and rest of the world. Plus other products they share probably with other companys ships they get completly different prices. Your Price with 15k per Container is about 7 times to high.
Private persons dont get a container on a big container ship they pay maybe 3 times more then a huge company. A company pays 2000 Dollar for one container. One Containership (giant container ship) earns about 12 Million Dollar per ride.
Why did I wrote just 800 (1200 Dollar) Euro before ? I asked the wrong question I asked how much does it cost for the shipment company to ship one container.
in China they are shipping the most amount of Containers in China are just huge container ships. The Shipment cost is not 7 Dollar its maybe 1 Dollar per PS3 plus mayba another Dollar for shipment via trucks.
You have to differnetiate between the conditions normal people get (3000/4000/5000) Dollar. And the (Multi Billion) Companys. Why do you think they build huge container ships (the bigger the better) Yes because its a lot cheaper to transport container with them. You can search in the Web but search thoroughly because if someone says I payed 4000 Dollar for one Container it can be because of Duty or because of Weight--> Car/Furniture. Ofcourse they lost a lot more money for transport with the fats but still it is a small amount if you compare it to the other costs.
Shipment=Cheap
The Shipment costs are together with the package costs the lowest costs of all. You will have a problem to find an information about the conditions which huge companys get. I asked someone who works in a Shipping Line.
