It's called following the market. They obviously feel there are enough 3D films and potential future demand to move on this. 2D TV won't be going anywhere initially, but they clearly want to support seeing films you watched in 3D in the cinema in 3D at home - such as Avatar for example.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
