Donkey Kong (Arcade)
Pacman (Arcade)
Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Legend of Zelda (NES)
Contra (NES)
Castlevania (NES)
Bionic Commando (NES)
Sonic the Hedgehog series (Genesis)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Street Fighter 2 (Arcade)
Mortal Kombat 2 (Arcade)
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast)

Hey, not trying to be picky, but I have a couple questions. First which order is the list, is Donkey Kong 1 or 10? Also maybe it will remain the same, but we are ranking franchises not individual games, so do you want to keep the same order? Finally, the Dreamcast is part of the PS2/GC/Xbox generation, so Soul Calibur doesn't qualify for this, so which franchise do you want to replace it? Thanks.

Oh, could you clarify what counts and what doesn't?

You put Super Smash Bros. on the OP, and that came out the same year as Soul Calibur on the DC (it actually came out 98 in the arcade). Actually, by the time Paper Mario came out most of the great Dreamcast games were already released (JSR, Shenmue, SoA, Grandia II, etc).

I guess we can remove the Dreamcast games, but that still leaves me confused on when to stop counting PC games. I just assumed anything before the PS2 counted.

Thats a good point and I should have done a better job defining it, as I was thinking by console generation, which makes it hard to decide which PC games count. Basically, I'm counting PS/N64/Saturn era fitting in but not Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/Gamecube. So the qualifications will be if is on a 5th gen console or before it counts. But if it is not on a console, it needs to have been released in 2001 or before (when the N64 was discontinued and the Xbox/Gamecube were released which I'm going to say officially eneded the 5th gen). Thats not a perfect set of guidelines, but hopefully it will work and seems somewhat logical. I'll also put it in the first post so everyone can see it.

The list is follows as from 1 to 10 Soul Calibur could be seen as 7th generation console to the layman but it is actually a 6th gen console. This could be debated until eternity though. If I had to pick an 11 or 12 it would be Guilty Gear X and Super Magnetic Neo
