I've owned these glasses for 4 months now and I still haven't given them a fair shake. 8800 that I had worked fine with some games in 3D...like FEAR 2 and older stuff like Halo. Crysis however barely works without 3D.

I don't mind turning off AA or things like that to experience a game in 3d. Its more of a novelty than a regular gaming experience. Like I heard Avatar and Resident Evil 5 are kickass in 3D. I'd want to play that in 3D... Left 4 Dead 2 as well.

If a game is chugging in 3D badly, I guess I won't bother.

Right. Makes sense. Go for the GTS 250. It's a great value card in the sub-$150 bracket, and you won't regret buying it even if the 3D doesn't turn out to be what you want. For reference, the GTS 250 is about 50% faster than the 8800GS (renamed to the 9600GSO if you want to find reviews), so if your current framerates are below 20 on your intended setup with the 8800GS then don't expect it to be playable with the new one.

In PC hardware there's always something newer, better or cheaper around the corner and unless it's coming out that month its best to buy right away. Certainly don't obsess about possible future releases.

I'm a huge AMD fan by the way; it's not easy for me to make a GTS 250 recommendation.

Yeah, sub 20 frame rate was present in crysis. Everything else ran pretty good. But your'e right, you need a 30 fps in game rate not to get a massive headache when playing it 3D. The shutter rate is still 60 hz per eye but sub 30 in game frame rate hurts my head, lol.
