Freezing has not necessarily something to do with over heating.
The consoles in the past where simple and so they had almost no Software problems. Snes PS1 had no problems. Are you worried if your PC freezes ? The more complex a system is the more problems it has. Most of the times it has nothing to do with the Hardware. Its just a software problem. my PS3 freezes often If I use the browser. If I dont use the browser almost never. The freezing can be caused by to much heat. But quite often its caused by Software.
Ofcourse it has something to do with the sorrounding the system is. In Hot Countrys (without AC) or Countrys with a high Humidity the Hardware has more to suffern. And ofcourse Dust can be a problem so if you are for your console and it stands in a place without dust too much heat and dry air Consoles (and PCs) can have a long life.
