Why are you guys bashing him? He comes in with an issue and you're tearing him apart. No wonder he has no motivation. *** like you probably have been speaking to him in the same manner you are!

btw, I'm 18 and have never had a job.

Would you rather I say something like this?

It's perfectly all right you've never had a job, have no experience, can't do your homework, and failed all your midterms, something will absolutely come your way!  The job market is wonderful right now and I have every bit of confidence that someone will find you and you'll have your pick of jobs come graduation!

No, a middleground would be much better. For example:

"Although you've been having a tough time in school, I'm sure that if you're able to prioritize more efficiently next semester you'll do well. It's very difficult to find a stable, desirable job in this tough economy, but if you persevere and are willing to work your way from the bottom up, you'll reach your goals."

Being an ass doesn't help people stay motivated. Ask anyone with abusive parents or bosses.

Meh, what can I say, life isn't sunshine and puppy farts and neither am I.  Not only do I believe that the above statement will motivate nobody but I can't help it-- I'm blunt.

IDK, both of you don't lie, but he offers some sort of solution and hope of solving his problems, while you give no such things.

Whatever though, this guy is an attention whore, just like you pointed out in the beginning.
