For the most part games this generation are all rehashes with the exception of stuff like WiiSports.

All the FPS games coming out are in the same vein as 1996-2003 PC FPS games, with the exception of Gears of War and their cover mechanic.

Halo 3 is basically Halo 1 and 2

Call of Duty has followed the exact same formula up to and including high damage, cinematic levels, and loadouts since 2001 when they developed Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

Even PC games with very few exceptions are repeating themselves over and over again.

BioShock=System Shock only less intricate and a whole lot easier

Games are at a point right now where they're getting refined all to hell and back, but there hasn't been a real revolution. No new genres have popped up. With all the talk of how hitech everything is I haven't seen a single game that couldn't be done fundamentally on the Wii that's been done on the PS360 except Dead Rising. I mean if you turd up the graphics on any other game this generation, it could be ported over to the Wii.

I can't imagine how bleak and boring this generation would be if it weren't for the Wii at least giving us a new control scheme.

Hell I thought FPS games would never get boring the first time I played Wolfenstien and Doom, 15 years later I can barely get through a couple levels or play a few times online before it becomes a boring chore. I started to realize this was the case when I was buying a new shooter every week or 2.

Agreed. Yes, in fact, did you hear the reactions of the critics when Super Mario Galaxy 2 appeared? "Looks more of the same"

Then, what is Halo 3? What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? What is Bioshock 2? God of War 3? Gran Turismo 5?

At least maybe Zelda Wii will change many things in the gameplay. I love refreshing games, but a rehash sometimes is really cool.

If you consider Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, they are both great games, but there's no revolution between the two concepts. Galaxy and 64 are both revolutions. Mario 64 = 3D

Galaxy = space, gravity, gorgeous graphics (for the Wii)

But it's all about collecting stars...
