Depends. Will Sony make a cheaper console and not ignore the Japanese from the begining?

If Sony didn't leave the door open for MS in Japan they wouldn't have gotten this far. If Sony smartens up and gets the Japanese intrested right from the begining then it'd be useless for MS.
