Just an hour and a half of "lets beat Ash up" Which was great, don't get me wrong, but it lacked the balance the other films had. and anyways, what was a better horror movie released in the last five or ten years? |
Army of Darkness didn't need underlying horror or a solid emotional state. It was a succesful deviation from the first two movies in that regard, and kind of moved away from the horror genre. The reason why I brought the movie up is because, in my opinion, the humour in Drag Me to Hell was a failed attempt by Raimi to replicate what he successfully accomplished with Army of Darkness. While I found a couple of the comedy scenes to be well done, most of them felt out of place when coupled with such uncharismatic actors. Like I said before, I don't think that Drag Me to Hell is a bad movie, I just consider it to be a major disappointment and a step below the movies that he is famous for.
I can't say that I've enjoyed many horror movies that have been released in the last decade. The Mist and Bubba ho-tep are the only ones that come to mind right now, and calling the latter a horror movie is probably arguable anyway.
