Don't worry man, I've played a track in the Arabian setting with shortcuts (where walls open and close, streets become narrower and narrower) and where the enemy uses them too. On top of that, you can build up powerups. You don't have to fire them, just gather another one and it becomes increasingly powerful. There's also the +/- meter where you can get + for drifting, nice driving, ramming someone who is gathering + points, and so on. If you're hit while doing something cool (and it therefore fails), he will get your + points, making it quite tactical.
Add the fun graphics and the easy editor and you've LBP gold again
