I have a feeling that Bungie will be adopting the idea of rewards based on gameplay. They mentioned in one of their presentations that people would rather have a rewards based system than a system based purely on getting a higher rank. As far as MW is concerned I don't think they even take ranking into account during matchmaking, I hope Bungie keeps their ranking system in place, but also includes the unlockables. We will find out soon hopefully.
