FF13 isn't going to be as successful as FF7 or FFX. Lots of western gamers are bashing the emo, melodramatic soap opera nature of jrpgs (and by jrpgs they basically mean Square-Enix. lol Not all jrpgs are like that but since Square-Enix games are like that, people ignorantly generalize to all jrpgs) these days. And they are bashing these games for being too linear (I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing but non-linearity makes jrpgs more enjoyable. In the NES Dragon Quests and Final Fantasy, there was a lot more freedom in where you could go). Final Fantasy is directly responsible for the many criticisms that westerners have about jrpgs.
The critics however always buy into the hype so they will give out high scores for FF13 regardless. "Wahh, jrpgs are a relic of the past. They are too linear! They are like bad soap operas!.... oh a new main title Final Fantasy you say? I'll give you 9.5!"
