So much ignorance on this thread posted by people who have obviously never owned a plasma. As some other more informed people have posted, the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42" screen at normal viewing distance is minimal (ie. you won't notice). What you are more likely to notice is motion blur on an LCD. I've read reports about the perceived resolution of LCDs and plasmas when handling motion and the LCD's suffer from this much more than plasmas. Surely everyone who has seen an LCD can vouch for this as well. They are getting better with higher refresh rates but still can't compare to plasmas. Also, LCDs can't compare to plasmas for black level and contrast and therefore all colours look better on a decent plasma. Go to any AV site and see what the enthusiasts consider the better option for giving the best picture: it isn't LCD. Before anyone asks, I also own an lcd monitor for my computer so I know the pros and cons of both.
