Well, technologically speaking, with Blu-ray having so much storage, it is only natural that people will look for more things to do with it.
Also, we are on the verge of OLED TVs coming into the market, and it looks as if they will replace LCD by 2020, because they give a superior picture, will be cheaper and more energy efficient ect. We should have TV's that are about 20% cheaper than their LCD counterparts but a lot better....that would get more people into the 3D and blu-ray thing if and when realized.
Also, keep in mind that Sony probably wants to do something just like Blu-ray, to make money off of the intellectual property. If this takes off, Sony will be getting royalties from TV makers using the 3D technology, and from studios putting 3d content on their movies.
I think that this is a fabulous idea, that like Blu-ray will take a long time to get popular. I know that Sony can do it, and look forward to more good things to my favorite company.
