I'm boiling your post down to this because you talk too much. :D
I won't argue with people who like NGE. What I don't care for are people who play up its convoluted message as if it's something incredibly deep. If the director doesn't know WTF he/she just created, it's not deep. It could be personally profound but please, keep it to yourself. Personally, I absolutely worship the movie Magnolia. Most of my friends hate it. The movie is all over the fucking place but I've found a common theme in the movie that really touched me. Do I know if PT Anderson intended that? Dunno, and I don't really care. I adore the characters Anderson created and I think the movie is quite touching because of it.
Oh, and Lynch is bat-shit crazy. I love his work and I love Eraserhead but I'll never argue with anyone who doesn't like his work because, frankly, if you don't care for Lynch's style of film-making, I think that's totally okay. Anyone who has watched his catalog of work and objectively looks at the work has to admit that they're not sure if he's completely insane or a genius. It's totally up in the air. I tend to lean toward the "genius" side when it comes to Lynch because he filmed the greatest lesbian scene ever to hit mainstream film. Shallow, but enough to win me over.
On the other hand, Kubrick is God. There is no doubting his genius.
