That, and not enough memorable characters, no good music (JP music in games are CLASSIC. Western games? No. How often do people say Western games have great soudntracks? Not often.), and different style gameplay than what they're used to.

well some may argue that japanese games(mostly rpgs) dont use a different style of gameplay either.  However when i play a game like MW2 and i see that the game is exactly the same as the previous title, i really have to question why the game is as popular as it is. With Japanese games however i dont have this problem. if a game has similar gameplay too another game and someone were to ask wats so special about it, we can argue that the story and characters are what made it special and wat made it a classic. and You just wont get that kind of reception from most western games
