LCD do have a huge advantage in how they behave with light incoming on the screen.
Lets say you have a window facing your TV, with an old SD TV you would get a lot of reflection on your TV, with LCD you can actually watch the TV without having to close every single blind in the house...

Basically LCD has won the battle over plasma so this is kind of an inventory clearance deal..

Complete exaggeration.

1. Plasmas screen is made out of glass so it does reflect a bit more light, but no blinds need to be closed for people to see the screen normally. Besides, most manufacturers coat their screens with an anti-glare coating.

2. Plasma is still being manufactured by countless manufacturers. Just cause Sony doesn't make it, its not dead technology. Samsung, Panasonic and LG still support plasma.

3. Both LCD and Plasma are obsolete if you consider OLED TV's coming in the future.
