I can only vouch for the Original.
It depends of what you consider scary. Do you consider movies like Event Horizon or Aliens scary? Do you feel tension and horror in tight, dark corridors without knowing what's ahead of you? Do you fear for your life in horror games with limited ammunition and hard to bring down enemies, if you don't know the trick behind them?
If you answer yes, then Dead Space will scare you till you're drenched out of color :P
