The biggest problem for the PS3 and 3rd party games is because Cell has been discontinued, there's no point spending any money towards PS3 exclusives, because it's not future proofed. Now we know symmetrical cores are taking over the home PC market and Xbox 360 is going to outsell the PS3 this generation, as well as them being used future hi-end PC set-ups.

Thats why the PS3 is falling behind on cross platform games like MW2 compared to CoD4 2 years ago, the PS3 wasn't designed to go on for this long using single core CPUS and segregated GPUS with seperate vector and shader units. Sony hoped developers would use the PS3 as the main development platform for all games this gen, instead it just downgrade games for the PS3 to handle.

It's also why games like Crysis 2 and Rage look and run better then PS3 exclusives, there's just more money going into engines that Cell can't handle as well. This is also why MGS: Rising is leading on 360 now and Square Enix made FFXIII multi, they need to make sure they aren't left behind on the engine front or they'll perish and die like Free Radical and Factor 5.
