Galaxy is a 3D platformer, so it's not from the same series.

2D Mario doesn't have to change much from its original concept, because it was already so close to perfection with SMB3 and SMW. But since when is gaming excellence a reason to leave out a game from a best games list? There is no valid excuse to not put a New Super Mario Bros. game on this list and it's an embarassing mistake.

I guess it really depends on their definition of one series....

You're reading my second statement wrong, I'm just pointing out what they might be thinking by not include 2D Mario (again assumingg 2D & 3D counts as one series).

If the article were treating both game as from the same series then then I feel that Galaxy should have been the pick because it was both good AND innovative rather than just being Good as with NSMB. Although to be honest, I would have given it to Mario 64.

Their definition is wrong then. Gamers think that 2D and 3D Mario are different games.

Sorry, for misreading that part of your post.

Sorry again, but I think your choice is terrible. Putting a game from 1996 into a list of the best games of this decade is even more wrong than just leaving out 2D Mario.

@Slimebeast: Once again, I have to say that I am sorry. I am glad that you aren't in charge for making such a list.

It's ok, at least you're kind enough to tag the 'I think' line in front rather than make a blanket statement. I never got into Mario even as a kid so taste might be tainted, I grew up on Contra, Double Dragon and Macross shooters, the violence in them just felt much more 'cooler' to lil ol me back then.

And anyways, I'm just speculating on why 2D Mario isn't on the list, for all we know they could simply not like it or something. :)

And big oops on Mario 64, I didn't realize it's now over a decade old! It just aged so well!
