I don't care much about the portraits, but I'm glad the voices are Japanese.
First, I heard the English voice acting is bad, very bad.
Second, I like Japanese and it definitely suits JRPGs better than English.
And yes, I do understand Japanese, and despite speaking it worse than English, it reasonably sounds more natural to me.
