What i see from Brazil in us movies is that the parents really don't care much about their teenagers, letting they go out whitout telling where they are going, let them sleep over whitout asking permission or at least calling home, don't talk with their children about everyday stuff. And things like that. Sure, movies aren't the best way of knowing about a place.

Sadly it may not be too far from the truth.

Between divorce, single parent families, and the prevalence of co-habitation in America, it can cause problems with raising traditional families.

There certainly are families that aren't in the picture that has been painted for you, but your usually going to find them in strongly traditional family structures.
