So why were all those people celebrating the turn of the millenium December 31 1999? I know what you mean, but this is the way it usually works. When talking decades, the 80's is 1980-1989, the 90's is 1990-1999 etc.

People celebrated the millenium on January 1st, 2000 because they are idiots. Whether the masses beleive it or not does not make it true.

The millenium began in 2001, the decade does not end until 2010. Professional media shouldn't make this mistake, but sadly they do.
