I played a Warrior with Sword & Shield on my first playthrough, might choose a Dwarven 2-handed warrior after my current (City elf rogue). I still found the spellcaster (basically Morrigan) to be one of the most useful offensive characters. The top down view really helps when placing spells tactically. Actually, I was wondering how well spell placement works on consoles. I can't imagine doing it 3rd-person. |
When you select a spell with an area effect, the game pauses and you can choose where to apply the spell. It's actually not bad at all. Effected characters glow so you know who it effects. I.E. enemies glow red, and friendlies glow green.
The main problem I had on consoles was applying tactics in battles. In most cases Mages stand at the back. But in some cases you can't actually target them in order for someone to take them out. There were a few rooms where I had to force people to run to them in order to target them.
There was one room specifically where this was annoying.
