I for one would definitely support this move. I have absolutely no interest in owning or playing a PSP, whether it's 3000 or Go, because I find handheld gaming fiddly and awkward. But I think some of the games on the PSP would be great to play. If I could play them on my PS3 then I'd definitely look at:

GoW Chains of Olympus,
R&C Size Matters, and
ALL IS FORGIVEN SEGA I can play the sequel to my favourite game of the generation so far. Valkyria Chronicles 2 baby. I am so there.

Yep this idea totally rocks for me.

I don't think it would affect hardware sales too much for PSP (as if anything could make PSP Go HW sales any worse). People get a PSP because they want gaming on the go, that won't change merely because they can play the games on PS3.

What it might do is swing some developers away from true PS3 development and onto making games for PSP, which is cheaper and easier to do while being able to sell to the PSP+PS3 80 million userbase, and the high production value games might get a bit cut short. Easier to port a 360 game to PSP? In this respect it could hurt the PS3 with fewer top shelf games coming to it in the future.

Perhaps this is the true purpose of the rumoured UMD device from Logitech: plugs in to the PS3's USB port and away you go.
