You need to realize that, just like in games and movies, just because something is popular does not mean it's good.

No grammy or stupid award makes a song or artist good. Just like review scores. Review scores aren't gospel.

At least review scores are a good way to get an idea of the strength of the material, obviously not a standard, but reviews tend to at least present a point of view even if the score itself means nothing. And speaking of reviews, for a community that reads so much into compiled reviews on metacritic, etc, you'd be surprised how mediocre the reviews for the top 10 billboard albums are. So that says something about them.
