Actually, the war in Afghanistan was won to the best we could win it, when we went into Iraq.
There is no way to win a war in the traditional sense in Afghanistan. Best you can hope for, is to make your enemies useless while your there. We did that.
You could put 400,000 troops in there for 10 years, and as soon as you leave, they will be what they were again in 5.
Best thing to do, is keep a small force there forever to keep them from gaining power, or leave. There is no path to victory in that area of the world.
The last 40 years has proven that.
