So why do you get Trophies for?

I try to Platinum games I really enjoy, but otherwise trophies don't serve much purpose for me.

I hate trophies that require innate skill over dedication to the game though, like some games with multiplayer have. See: Killzone 2. Even though I'm generally close to a 2.0 K:D ratio in online console games, I still think some of the trophies are ridiculous.
