Well, it'll play any non-Crysis game on 1600x1200, high settings. It's basically equivalent to the 9800GTX you suggested. The 4850s when they were $100 were better value, but they're now $120+ with no 5xxx replacement yet. As an AMD fan, it's hard to recommend Nvidia but they are actually better value at that price point right now.
