Yeah...Shonan Junai Gumi is the prequel...there's also the prequel of Shonan Junai Gumi: Bad Company(which you can find at the end of some Shonan Junai Gumi books or in Scan Trad).Bad Company is short, one or two books and relates the encounter or Ryuuji and Eikichi who are 14 and are not the best friend in the world at that time...in this one you can see the Running Wild Angels/Midnight Angels and Masaki,the former owner of Eikichi's motorcycle in GTO... and it is well drawed because it was draw after GTO...)
That's true GTO is funnier than Shonan but I had great laugh with it too
