In MGS1 Snake was a War Hero coming out of retirement for one last mission.

In MGS2 Raiden was a fresh rookie who was a bit too emo for most MGS1 fans.

In the way how both of them were kept out of the loop sorta say and were in something that was bigger than they were informed about. The way that the "Big Shell" resembles what Sneak had to go through in Shadow Mosses, hell Ocelot pretty tells you at the end that it was all a training mission designed the same as the SM mission in MGS1.

The external circumstances that they found themselves in have absolutely nothing to do with the characters themselves. Therefore I demand that you retract your:

Raiden pretty much = Snake in MGS1

statement, because it couldn't be further from the truth and I died a little on the inside when I read it.
