Your opinion on MGS1, 3 and 4? |
MGS1: 10/10 So far ahead of anything released at the time (only Res Evil 2 and Zelda OoT were in its league) that it wasn't funny. Graphics, gameplay, story. This was as close to perfect as any game I'd ever played when I first got my hands on it in 1998. Twin Snakes for the Gamecube didn't quite stack up, but it was still good.
MGS3: Quite possibly my personal favorite game of all time. It wasn't perfect, but no game before or since has blown me away with its tight story telling and characterization. To me, this was Metal Gear's finest hour. 10/10
MGS4: This is where some of you guys are going to hate me. I was a little disappointed with MGS4. The gameplay was amazing (as usual) but I hold MGS titles to a higher standard. Kojima had to resort to overly lengthy cut scenes to tie up all of the loose ends in the series. As a result, the game seemed to ge quite a bit shorter (but in reality, pretty much all of the MGS games could be beaten in a few hours if you knew what you were doing). I didn't like some of the story elements (Akiba, the B&B's, Nanobots, Naomi's final fate). And it didn't help things that "The Anonymous" took it upon themselves to post spoilers on my wall after I avoided all information about the game. MGS4 was a little below what I'd hoped. 8.5/10
And, in 2001, MGS2 would have gotten a 9.5/10 from me.
To put them in order as far as my enjoyment if I were to play them today:
MGS3>MGS1>MGS2=MGS4
