FreeTalk: Actually, you should urge everyone who intends on voting to look into all major candidates, any past history that may indicate pure political bullshit, any previous claims or work history. Sadly, if you do that, you'll find that out of 6, 6 of them are going to be untrustworthy.
But as a voter, you should responsibly look into who you are voting as your personal voice and your countries representative.
