You don't need double precision in games. Actually, we often use half precision for performance optimizations.

It is true that Power7 should be a lot more versatile but the deficit in raw performance will need to be offset by the GPU then.

The GPU of the PS3 is crap. Without the Cell, it couldn't match the performance of the 360.

If the PS4 is about to put its dime in the GPU that's fine I guess. Although, I still think Power7 benefits don't match the need of consoles. If they want easy to use and powerful general computing power, they might take a look at x86 processors then.
