PS2 launched in 2000. The PS1 went on to be manufactured and supported until 2006: 12 years after it's Japan debut, and 11 years after it's US/EU debut. PS3 launched in 2006. The PS2 is still supported to this day, over 3 years later, and over 9 years after the it launched. With PS4, the PS3 can still, and most likely will, be supported throughout the first 3-4 years of the PS4's life. Of course that's mostly up to the consumer, and not just Sony. Unless the PS3 dies off quickly there after the PS4's launch, the 10-year-plan will be in effect though. |
6 years per generation seems short. Even though its been like this since playstation 1.
