It might be time to clean your drive (blu-ray or dvd cleaner works just fine). I have had no problems with shut offs or random freezes; but I have noticed that synching trophies wihile in-game results in a weird error message. Other than that no complaints (I also have a 60 gig and a slim).

Thanks...I'll give it a try. Any preference on cleaning kits. Most of them say do not use on video game consoles.

I used this one from Bestbuy, mind you it says only DVD and CD, but it none the less took care of my problem. It has a small brush on a disc that that picks up any dirt on the lens.

The best thing you can do is open your ps3, open the bluray drive and clean the lens with a common window cleaner on a qtip.
Before that i tried cleaning discs-> didnt work out as wished
