Because I think the real world violence was pretty accurate to the Spanish Civil War and I think that it seeped into the girl's fantasy world from the real one. Her fantasy is not perfect nor is it even safe so I think the oddness of the imaginary world and how dark it was is a reflection of what hte girl has witnessed in the war maybe. In the real world. They went a bit too graphical and tasteless. I don't know how to explain... there are some really violent scenes that I'm fine with, I guess it depends on how they film it and contextualize it.
