Sony originally took their lead by shelling out cash (loss on hardware / advertising budget), international presence, different advertising (focus on teens and up), and most importantly, better relations with third parties.

Yeah, agreed. I'm just saying that's Nintendo's biggest threat. Not that it's likely; MS/Sony still haven't realised their way will never make business sense.
