The reason there are so many of the same games are two-fold.
1) Developers/Publishers like to pay it safe and work with already winning formulas to make more money.
2) Most gamers don't like change and don't want to branch out. They just keep buying the same games with increasing numbers.
It's sad really. #2 is probably why great and original games like Psychonauts got bad sales.
