Sony isn't stupid. Fun is something you can get out of anything, it is the personal enjoyment of the individual derived from anything. That is always free. PSN on the other... with recent rumors, it seems will be getting paid subscriptions for premium services...
@Staude: If he was talking to someone on another game using cross game chat, you WOULDN'T hear him.... so to you he'd just be silent.
