they need to be ahead of themselves next gen...

Next time, the PS3 may well have paved the way for the PS4. More and/or higher clocked SPUs will not introduce a major shift.

The last 15 years we have seen remarkably slow progress with regard to operating systems and CPU architecture. So I am happy to see daring new advancements.
