Is having a good soundtrack as important for a game as it used to be?

Absolutely soundtracks are important as ever! Having the right music as just the right time completely sells moments in a game.

I admit in something like your Gran Turismo's and Halo multiplayer that having the right music isn't the most important thing, but in general having the correct music is absolutely essential.
